Paddy Separator (Rice Husk Separator)
Paddy separator that splits husked brown rice from unhusked paddy by density and behaviour on an inclined oscillating tray, ahead of the whitening stage.
Overview
After husking, the stream contains both brown rice and paddy that was not husked. The paddy separator returns unhusked grain to the husker and sends brown rice forward to whitening — otherwise unhusked paddy ends up in the finished rice.
Separation is made on inclined, oscillating trays: paddy and brown rice differ in density, friction and shape, so they travel at different speeds and separate into two streams.
Where it sits in the mill
Between the husker and the whitener, usually with a return leg to the husker for the paddy stream. Capacity is matched to the husker so the mill does not queue at this stage.
